Caves and caverns

Biokovo is very popular for its underground diversity. So far, there are 600 known speleological objects, out of which 400 of them have been explored, and the research continues. Three caverns are deeper than 500 meters: Stara škola, Vilimoba and Amfora. T
hanks to the narrow entrance, at the bottom of them there will always be ice. The same ice was, until the middle of the 20th century, dug out by the poor peasants and carried on the donkeys into the coast for the tourist needs. The descent into the caves was a real danger, because people had to use the branches of trees or very primitive and simple ladders. A lot of caves diverge at the bottom into the labyrinths of the underground caves, sometimes they even spread out into several floors.
