Mauntain Biokovo
The view from the sea onto these fascinating rocks, and at the greenery and small villages at its bottom, fascinates everyone. At one moment the view comprises the hot pebble on the beaches, the greenery of the coastal border, thousands of meters wide line of the rocks and white limestone tops. Despite the fact that the mountain looks scary, as if it is going to crush on us, it is actually very accessible. There are numerous roads and paths that go straight through the rocks, and one of them leads straight to the top. That is also the highest road in Croatia. Every visit to this gigantic mountain offers a unique experience because it combines an exceptional mixture of unusual contrasts of nature enriched with the amazing sea views.
Due to its particularities, especially because of the shape of its terrain, as well as its natural beauties, Biokovo can be very interesting to both local people and tourist as well. The fact is that Biokovo even today goes through very active changes in the plant and animal world. Under the influence of active and sometimes very harsh nature, there is no rest at this mountain. Everything is in constant movement. Because of that, the mountain is the object of numerous and continuous scientific researches. It was also proclaimed the Nature Park, in 1981.
Its highest top is Saint Jure (1762 m high), and it is by 4 meters larger than the highest top in Velebit (Vaganski vrh, 1758 m), which is the largest mountain chain in Croatia.
